Rookie Lifeguard
Rookie Lifeguard is a fantastic course for children who wish to continue their swimming and start a journey into the exciting aquatic discipline of lifesaving.
Aimed at children aged 8 – 12 years old (who have completed their Swim England Gold Challenge award) the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) Rookie Lifeguard programme covers water safety, personal survival, rescue and emergency response. Children will learn how to help themselves and others in difficultly in and around water, practicing life saving skills of resuscitation and water rescue.
Children work through bronze, silver and gold awards achieving badges and certificates as they progress, and at the conclusion of the Rookie programme children are ready to progress to the RLSS Survive and Save awards.

We run medallion, sport and still water awards at Bootham Swim School and give swimmers the opportunity to develop diverse lifesaving skills including personal survival, resuscitation, first aid, water rescue, competitive lifesaving and open water lifesaving. The later including practical work in a lake. Swimmers will learn how to stay safe in and around water and the awards are the ideal pre-requisite for becoming a pool lifeguard.
The Survive and Save programme is also an ideal physical activity or skill for completion of components of the Duke of Edinburgh award.
